Cindy

A young and inherently restless creature, Cindy is a hare who grew up in the outskirts of civilization, gaining a deep respect for the need of its presence and support. However, the omnipresent segregation of species, and seeing how the strong are allowed to always bully the weak without consequence, the question formed in Cindy’s mind: What if I can be the bringer of justice?

Cindy’s earliest memories are of her and her father, in the quiet country town of Varhn: running through the woodlands, playing hide and seek, helping her father gather wood against the night’s chill.

At around the age of 6, wound up alone, and was taken into the care of Mama Riri, who ran a communal home of children in Varhn. An orphanage, more or less. Mama Riri’s rule was strict but fair, although as Cindy grew up, there was often friction between Riri’s rules and Cindy’s deep impulse for independence and freedom.

At around the same time, Cindy began attending the Primary School which was local to Varhn.

At the age of 12, Cindy took for herself the closet under the staircase. A private space for her alone. It wasn’t a large space, but it was big enough for a bed, desk, and she could even stand (in one of the corners). An oasis of privacy in an otherwise chaotic home of shared spaces.

Riri wasn’t happy with the arrangement, but somehow Cindy had managed to keep the space her own. She’s still not exactly sure how she managed. Of course, the other children took offense, and would run up and down the stairs to rain down dust and create a ruckous whenever she’d want to be alone.

Cindy became a student of the Bucklebury School in Verlanea at age 11. Tired of inequality and struggling to get by, she knew from the start she wanted to excel, perhaps even to achieve the status of Citizen at Unious. Such ambitions take their toll, as a perfect score in the final year is mandatory to even be considered, with the student’s past behavior and personality also being factored in.

She had little time for others growing up, missing out on socializing, becoming further isolated and alienated. Her independence kept her from forming the opinion of many hairs and rats: that their place in society was beneath the foxes and wolves, further widening the divide between her and others of her kind: seeing prey as weak willed and useless, while seeing preditors as domineering and selfish.

With a mindset of frustration, loneliness, and the even present doubts of if all this effort was even worth it, Cindy one night found herself sitting alone in the basement of Mama Riri’s, passing the hours by the warmth of the furnace, when the chute of the coal bunker came quietly open, and a black and white fox slipped inside.

Expecting attack or burglary, Cindy waited in the shadows, only to see the fox was rather young, just as herself, and seemed more interested in taking shelter from the cold and rain than stealing or hunting for young cubs to gobble up.

She approached him in the darkness and startled him a lot. But, they began to talk. His name was Sam. And they soon became close friends.

Quality	Descriptor of that quality

Cindy enjoys prepping food for herself when she can. It tastes good, fills her up, and it makes what she eats her own choice rather than anybody else’s. She’s baked desserts for herself, with berries she’s forged herself and sugar she had to pay for (which is not cheap). She’s tried jarring food too, but owing to her age, she couldn’t purchase the alcohol necessary to really work out well. Not that it stopped her from eating it. With… unfortunate results.
